As a Speech/Language Pathologist with over 30 years of experience as well as a telepractitioner since 2012, I have worked to provide pertinent information to those SLPs stepping out into our profession. When I began providing telepractice services, many professionals were not familiar with what it entailed. Sharing my knowledge and expertise with those just beginning their telepractice journey has been very rewarding. Once I began servicing students via telepractice, I fell in love and never looked back.
When COVID-19 pushed professionals to make the move to remote service provision, many school districts were searching for information about how to begin providing telepractice services and I was honored to be a resource. Telepractice goes beyond just the technology and knowing what equipment to purchase. Understanding how to interact with remote students, developing client relationships, and implementing ethical procedures are also critical components. The focus should be client-driven and follow best practices.
