NEW for 2021! Experts in speech therapy, special education, and special needs law have come together to help you navigate IEP requirements this upcoming school year. Due to the upheaval and challenges we faced last year, there are many students who are needing additional services and considerations to help them continue to progress and achieve their goals. Together we will highlight, address, and discuss all of the ways we can support our students, parents, AND our teammates. We are ONE IEP TEAM.

Legal Ramifications of Lost IEP Services

Tuesday, August 17 | 4 pm PT / 5 pm MT / 6 pm CT / 7 pm ET

PRESENTERS: Todd Zoellick, Lawyer and Educator

There are many reasons IEP services may be lost, delayed, or postponed, particularly involving pandemics, natural disasters or prolonged illness. What are the obligations of schools and districts and what do those obligations mean for an established IEP? When are IEP services considered "lost" and how does that impact the legal requirements for providing services? Is the FAPE requirement ever suspended for schools in a disaster situation? We will explore the legal obligations of providing services to students with an IEP, what "lost" services mean, and the legal processes and requirements if services have not been provided as stated in the IEP. LEARN MORE

PRESENTER: Dr. Lara Wakefield MHS, PHD, CCC-SLP and Kelly Ott  MED, MHS, CCC-SLP

As employees of public schools, school staff have rights to accommodations due to disabilities under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. This means educators can have 504 Plans that require positive actions to assist them with their job duties. This course will review the Section 504 regulations as it applies to school staff. Three case studies will be reviewed to illustrate how accommodations can provide educators with ways to access and complete their job duties with 504 Plans. Finally, participants will be provided with resources to help them locate their local section 504 compliance officer. LEARN MORE
